Supporting people through organisational change
A plan can describe what is changing without explaining what it means to the people involved.
Distinguish what is known
Separate decisions already made from questions still open. Communicating uncertainty honestly is different from leaving people to guess. Name who can answer practical questions and when information will be revisited.
Ask about the work itself
An announced change can affect handovers, priorities and informal support. Ask people what the change means for an ordinary working day. These conversations may reveal details that a high-level plan does not capture.
Create a review point
Choose a specific date to review what is working and what remains unclear. Listen for unintended effects as well as expected progress. A review is useful when it can lead to adjustment, not only confirmation that the original plan was followed.
A question to take with you
What question about this change have people not yet had a useful opportunity to ask?
Editorial guides offer general reflection, not a personalised coaching plan.
