What quality looks like in a coaching relationship
Credentials are useful context. Your questions about the actual working relationship matter too.
Understand the credential
EMCC describes individual accreditation as recognition of professional practice. Ask which credential a practitioner holds and whether it is current. A training programme’s award and a practitioner’s individual accreditation are not the same thing.
Look for a clear agreement
Before beginning, ask about the purpose, fees, confidentiality and how you can raise concerns. You should be able to understand what you are agreeing to without relying on broad claims about transformation.
Keep reviewing the work
Ask how goals and usefulness will be revisited. You may discover that the original question has changed, or that another kind of support is needed. A clear review conversation gives both parties a chance to address this rather than continuing by habit.
A question to take with you
Which question about a prospective coaching relationship have you not yet asked?
