Making space for supervision

Professional reflection includes the practitioner, not only the question a client brings.

Bring a question, not a performance

You might notice a recurring reaction, uncertainty about a boundary or a wish to rescue someone from discomfort. A supervision conversation can provide space to examine what you are bringing to the relationship.

Protect the client’s identity

Prepare the question without unnecessary identifying details. Focus on the pattern, your response and the professional judgement involved. Discuss confidentiality and its limits within the supervision agreement.

Return to practice thoughtfully

Reflection does not need to end with a dramatic change. It might lead to a clearer agreement, a new question or greater awareness of your own assumptions. The important next step is to consider how the learning relates to your actual work.

A question to take with you

What question from your practice deserves space beyond your own internal conversation?
